November show at the Cave, recording news

John and the band will be playing an extended show at The Cave on November 15th. It'll start around 6pm, and we'll be debuting some new material as well as revisiting some older stuff, so message us or leave a comment if you've got any requests. Facebook Event Link

Speaking of new material, we recently spent a couple of days at Kudzu Ranch recording tracks for the next album. Also in the pipleline is a 7" vinyl release, which we hope to have ready in time for Christmas.

In other news, we're proud to have been included on Bear Family Records' 40th Anniversary compilation, alongside a ton of great musicians including Chuck Mead, Ry Cooder and Deke Dickerson. Get your copy here.

    Happy Halloween!

  • Happy Fall, y'all!

Hey all you lovely Bluff fans, you!

It's that time of year again.... leaves turning, campfires, a chance for that one last ride on the Blue Ridge before it gets a little too cold.  Personally, it's my favorite time of year.  As much as I love the beautiful Carolina summertime, there are few things better than curling up with a cup of tea on a crisp fall evening.

Speaking of fall evenings, we have some wonderful shows lined up!

Coming up next Friday is Shakori Hills where we will be in the Cabaret Tent at 7:00 PM.  It's always a fun time out there and everyone is always in a happy dancing mood.  We'd love to see all your smiling faces there!

The following week (October 17th and 18th) find us at The Cat's Cradle Backroom and The Garage in Winston-Salem, NC with our buddies from Charlotte, The Loudermilks!

Here's to the season!  Cheers, everyone!

    Much love,

  • Dog Days of Summer!

Hey all you lovely Bluff fans!

    How are y'all doing?!

I'm writing to you from the campus coffee shop at North Carolina Central University.  It's officially back to (grad)school time for this bassist!  Things have been a little crazy lately (in a good way) in Bluff-land but they are finally settling down.

Speaking of settling down, why don't you all stop by THIS FRIDAY at the City Tap to hear some toe-tappin' honky tonk?  Let's ring the school year in right and bid adios to the Carolina summer time.  It sure was a good one and we'd love to celebrate it with you all.  Free show, tips much appricated.

Our good friend Michael Rank will be kicking everything off at 8:30 with his dark version of acoustic americana and we'll be following right after.

Saturday we have a special treat at the Shakori Hills Grassroots grounds, where John will be playing solo for Songwriters in the Round.  Click HERE for more information.  It's bound to be a great evening!

Those are our last shows of August, so come out and say howdy!  Drag along that special someone  and enjoy last of the lovely summer evenings.

Whoops!  Gotta go.  Almost late for jazz gutiar ensemble class!

Great big hugs from all of us in the Rosewood Bluff to all of you out there.  We sure do love y'all.

    Until next time,

  • Gizmo Brew Works, The Pinhook, and SchoolKids

    Why, fancy seeing you here!

Hope you all have been out enjoying some fun time by the pool, catching some rays on the sand, or just enjoying the beautiful summer season.

This past Saturday we had the pleasure of playing our friend Brian's wedding at Gizmo Brew Works.  If you haven't stopped by there to sample the wonderful brews they are creating, you are missing out.  Put it on your list of things to do this summer, and make sure to bring a friend!  That way you can both "cheers!" each other in congradulations for helping to support the local economy and celebrate fine craftsmanship.

This week the Bluff is taking a short intermission, but we'll be back in the saddle on July 24th at The Pinhook in Durham with our good buddies Dom Casual.  It's always so fun to play with dear friends.  Stop by and come help us celebrate a midsummer's night throwdown.  :)  You've been just itching to show off those new shorty boots you bought for the hot summer weather, aren't you?  Yeah you are!

Can't make it to the Pinhook?  Past your bedtime?  Gotta work early the next day?  Taking the kids to summer camp?  Don't you worry about a THING!  We've got you covered!  *fist pound*

Stop by SchoolKids Records in Raleigh on Saturday, July 26th from 8:30-9:30 pm!  We're doing a rare and fun in-store show.  It'll happen at 8:30 sharp and it's all ages.  Stop on by and support your local record store!

Our pedal steel player, Nathan Golub has a solo release out and you can check it out HERE!  We love it, and hope you will too!

On a sadder note, Tommy Ramone has picked up his ticket for the big music festival in the sky and the last of the orginal Ramones has left the building.  Rest in peace, Tommy!  We will miss you!  Thanks for all the wondeful musicianship you have gifted to the human race and music history.  (If you haven't heard "It's Alive," the live Ramones album, do yourself a favor and pick it up!)

That's it for now!  Much love to you all and all of us in Bluffville hope to see you soon!

  • Summer on Trade this Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC

What a fun evening at The Kraken!  We can't even begin to express our thanks!  What a privalege to share the stage with our dear friends The Loudermilks from Charlotte, NC.  Hope you all got to check out their new CD, and if you haven't... well!  You should!  :)  Thank you to all that came out and made the night such an amazing success.

This weekend we return to my old stomping ground, Winston-Salem.  (Special thanks to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for my musical training and years of wonderful memories.  Go Fighting Pickles!)  We can't wait to see some familar faces and dear friends.

The Rosewood Bluff will be playing the Summer on Trade concert series this Saturday, July 5th from 7pm-10pm.  The stage is located right smack dab in the middle of the Trade Street and 5th Street intersection and it's a free family-friendly show.  There will be local food/beer vendors, and all the shops on trade will have their doors wide open.  It's the perfect way to get your honky-tonk on!

Heavy Rebel is also happening that weekend, so come out early to check out all the cool cars that will line Trade Street, enjoy some fun people watching, hear some great music, and catch the mud wrestling competition.

Happy July 4th weekend, everyone!  Can't wait to see you all!

    Much love,

  • This Friday! The Kraken!

Hey all you cowboys and cowgirls out there!

This Friday we'll be returning to The Kraken on Highway 54 in Chapel Hill with our buddies from Charlotte, The Loudermilks!  Stop by and say hello!  We'd love to see all your smiling faces.

  • The Ice House and Saxapahaw Farmer's Market

    Hello everyone!

    Happy June!

Thanks to everyone who came to the INDY Best of 2014 party!  The dancers were wonderful (including a special guest star apperance by John's own son) and everyone was in great spirits.  We had a blast, and hope you all did too.

Summer's coming at us full swing, and we've got some really fun Bluff shows coming your way.  We'll help you start the weekend off right this Friday with our friends in Selma, NC at The Ice House.  Show starts right at 7:45 pm.  The Ice House is has made a moto of supportting tradional country music, and we're excited to be a part of the campain.

On Saturday we'll be playing in Saxapahaw, NC for the Saxapahaw Farmer's Market and we start promptly at 5pm.  We'll be making a racket until 8pm, and be sure to check out all the wonderful vendors while you're there, and grab a cup of coffee at Cup 22 in the Haw River Ballroom.

Keep an eye on the "Shows" page for an updated list of all the places we'll be.  Hope to see you guys out and about soon!

    Keep dancing!

    Much love,

  • Thanks, Chapel Hill!

    Whoooooo boy!

That was FUN.  Nothing like looking out into a happy, dancing crowd and not being able to see the back of the room.  Wow.  Chapel Hill, you most certainly brought the party.

This past Saturday we played our beloved Cave (TRIVA! John Howie Jr.'s childhood picture still hangs in the bar, as does a portrait of Dave Hartman, so look for it next time you find yourself in our favorite underground haunt) with our buddies Amigo from Charlotte NC.

Just in case you missed them, check them out this week at The Garage (We love you Garage!!!) in my old school turf of Winston-Salem on Saturday May 31st.

You never quite know what you're going to step into when you arrive at a venue.  From the moment we unloaded our gear, we were greeted by smiling familiar faces (y'all know who you are, and we are SO THANKFUL for each and every one of you!) and it was clear the evening was buzzing.  Quite a few people had all claimed their spots before Amigo chimed their first chord, and that's always a great sign.

I've been all over the world, and there's nothing quite like the magic found in a North Carolina spring/summer night... and there was plenty of magic in The Cave on Saturday.  You all are phenomenal!

A great big shout out to Luis Rodriguez for sitting in with us while Tim is visiting family overseas!  Luis really rose to the occasion, and it was wonderful to look over and see his smiling face and positive energy.

    What's next?!

We'll be at the INDY Best of 2014 party on June 7th!  I inserted the poster below, so we hope to see you all there.  Help us celebrate some of the triangle's highlights and hidden gems in lovely downtown Durham.  It's going to be a blast.

We simply cannot express our thanks for all the wonderful support you lovely people have given us.  You all are what keep us going and we promise not to let you down.

    Until next time!

    Much love,
